Background |
In food preparation establishments, the garbage disposal does a very thorough job in mixing freshwater with ground food waste and FOG increasing the burden of grease trap/interceptor which is designed to separate water from grease. This is why using the garbage disposal to grind food waste is not a part of the Best Management Practice.
In recent years commercial garbage disposals have been identified as the greatest single source of ground food waste and FOG accumulated in public sanitary sewer lines causing overflows. More and more City Halls and local Water Districts have restricted or even prohibited the continue usage of commercial garbage disposals. |

Instead of grinding the food waste and wasting precious freshwater for flushing, the strainer-drawer in GDRU strains solid particles under the pre-rinse sink when dirty dishes are being pre-rinsed, affecting a much needed pretreatment process of restaurant wastewater.

It is recommended to use our pre-rinse basket whether your sink is in round bowl, square or cone shape in conjunction with the GDRU. A pre-rinse basket can function as the first stage strainer catching big pieces of food waste above the sink. With 2.5mm holes in its strainer-drawer, GDRU functions as the second stage strainer catching very small particles maximizing the effectiveness of the process.

Installation Instructions
| 1) |
Attach the four adjustable legs to the bottom of the housing. |
| 2) |
Place the unit under the sink. Carefully align the inlet of the unit (on the top) with the vertical drain opening of the sink or the manifold. |
| 3) |
Raise the unit by adjusting the legs and maintain the unit in level position. |
| 4) |
Connect one 2” outlet to the floor (or wall) drain with plumbing pipes and seal off the unused outlet. |
